HuntWise App Review
This app is a must have for any hunter. It will aide hunters in everything from scouting to item placement, such as tree stands, blinds, food plots, mineral blocks, and private landowners with their phone numbers. It highlights public lands, and allows you to create outlined food plots and hunting areas. One of the biggest game changers with this app is the HuntCast which truly separates it from similar hunting apps. The app is free for the basic features. Plus, you get the Pro full access for a 7-day free trail. After that, it costs $39.99 for the year.
You can place markers for the location of your blinds, stands, animal beds, scat, rubs, scrapes, mineral locations and lots more. This allows you to visually see, not only where your stuff is, but also to do a new level of scouting and visually seeing travel patterns of the local animal population.
The HuntCast is where this app stands out from the others. It will show you a forecasted best hunt time for a wide variety of game. It looks at moon phases, the temperature, and the weather to give you a better idea of when you can expect your desired game is moving, giving you that edge for a more successful hunt.
There are a bunch of layers you can add onto the maps such as public land areas, land owners, and specialty areas as well. Also, on the map you can create food plots, and if you have access to private land you can create property lines and add your makers inside the property lines for your blinds, stands, and everything mentioned in the section above. Also, when you have the pro membership you get access to all the states and not just one or two.
On top of everything else, with this app you can interact with other hunters and show logs of your hunting experience. There is also a section for land that is for sale in your state. If you have the pro membership you can get discounts on gear from a good amount of companies.
How this app stacks up scale of 1-10:
User friendly – 7
It does take a while to find out all this app can do. It took about an hour of just playing around with it to figure out everything.
Price – 8
The $39.99 feels a little pricey but after playing and seeing all that is offered with the pro membership, it feels like it is worth the money, especially when you add all the other animals you can use the HuntCast feature with.
Overall - 7.5
It is user friendly. There are a ton of different things that you can do with it. It is less expensive than similar apps. The only improvement really that would bump this app up to an 8 or 8.5 is showing topography and contour lines, but overall this should be a tool that every hunter has in their pocket.
