E12: Tear Down & Finale
We've sat on this episode for a while; but are now finally concluding Season 1 of our Texas Dirt Series! The 2021 Deer season is over, so Sam and his dad are making the final trip to break down their blinds and some feeders. Sam takes a few moments to recap what they have learned during their first year on the property, and shares some of their future plans for year number 2. One year down, with Season 2 coming soon!
E11: Last Chance for a Buck
It's the final week of general season, and Sam has 24 hours left to fill a buck tag. With two target bucks frequenting his stand, Sam has high hopes to finish his season on top. Like the rest of his season, this trip comes down to a single touch-and-go moment on the wrong side of his blind and with a competing wind.
E10: Management Minded Hunter
Sam passed on some great whitetail bucks during the 2021 season, but this early December encounter from episode 10 of our Texas Dirt Series might be the most difficult one to look back and watch! Sam and his dad return to the property for another trip, during which they continue to move trail cameras around, increase their scouting efforts, and Sam comes to full draw not once... but twice within a 24-hour window! Don't miss this one!
E9: Should Have Shot Him
Sam returns to the lease for a quick 2 day trip with his wife, Brooke. There is a stud 10-point which Sam has passed on multiple times in hope of his wife getting a crack at the deer, and now they look to seal the deal! The hunt turns south when things once again don't go as planned, and Sam is left wondering if they made the right decision to let a different deer walk. What you have in this episode is the balance between hunting a target buck, and quality whitetail management at its finest!
E8: First Blood
2021 Rifle Season is open in Texas! Sam and his dad, Mark are out to make the most of opening week. It doesn't take long for them to draw first blood, with Mark taking a quick shot at a big hog after the first morning hunt. Flash forward a couple days and the rut is beginning to kick in as Sam has what he describes as his best hunt thus far in his bow stand. Sam finally connects on a mature doe, but not before his first encounter with a new buck that will haunt him the rest of the season!
E7: Emergency Trip
It's days until the 2021 Rifle Opener, and Sam is scrambling to make sure their hunting land is ready to go! In this shorter episode, Sam makes a quick day trip out to fix some damage caused by the cows, check trail cams, and get a quick evening bow hunt in. He also takes a few minutes to specifically cover some of the progress they have made in patterning deer on the property through aggressive trail cam scouting methods.
E6: Too Close for Comfort
It is windy for the final week of the archery whitetail deer season in Texas. Sam and his dad make a quick trip back to their low-fence hunting lease to fix their hunting blinds and spend some time archery hunting. Watch as Sam passes on an a very respectable buck, only to have him show up the following day a little too close for comfort! They wrap up the trip hauling a skid steer behind the Ford F250, clearing a little land for the next big upgrade!
E5: Big Bucks & Fish’n Holes
Sam returns to their 800+ acre whitetail lease with his wife, Brooke for another bow season hunt in the Texas heat. Brooke is up first, looking to take her first deer ever. While the deer movement was slow, they have their first encounter with her 10-point target buck, as well as a couple hogs. Sam checks and moves some more trail cams, while Brooke tears it up at their favorite fishing hole!
E4: A Bow Hunting Nightmare
We're back on our 800+ acre Texas property, this time it's Nick and his wife Nicole trying to draw first blood during opening week of the 2021 archery season! This is Nicole's very first hunting trip, and the two of them are looking for a freezer filling doe or management buck. It all comes down to their last hunt, only for Nick to have to live what we call "A Bow Hunter's Nightmare!"
E3: Archery Opener 2021
2021 Texas Archery season has arrived! The Fall Obsession crew was set and ready for the 2021 bow opener! Sam's much anticipated first whitetail hunting trip was met with some unforeseen trials. Making the most of his trip, he discusses strategies for scouting new hunting land, quality deer management (QDM), and the self control it takes to pass on a young deer. Tune in and tell us, would you have taken a crack at this buck?
E2: Rifle Sets Going In
Sam returns for another work day on their new 800+ acre Texas hunting lease. This time with his dad, and a plan; to setup new rifle hunting blinds. Sam and his dad have found a prime spot for a rifle hunting set, and the results will speak for themselves! They do some additional scouting, and move trail cameras to check new areas on the property. Hunting season is close, it's almost go time!
