A New Favorite Turkey Jerky Recipe

With many turkeys being harvested this year, I thought it was a good time to share a new favorite recipe I came across to make turkey jerky. This was quite easy to make and definitely a family favorite now.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lbs. turkey

  • ½ cup soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp ground pepper

  • 1 ½ tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • ½ cube of beef bouillon

Step 1:

Thinly slice your turkey into strips. Take as much care as you can to make them even so dehydrating time will be uniform for all the pieces (I used the breast meat for this). Then, set aside.

Step 2:

Combine all ingredients from above into a medium to large size bowl and mix well. Add in all pieces of sliced turkey and mix together. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-12 hours to marinate the meat.

Step 3:

Remove pieces from the marinate and gently pat dry. Place turkey strips into dehydrator following manufacture recommendations. Set dehydrator for 160oF and dehydrate until thoroughly dry, approximately 5-8 hours depending on equipment and thickness of pieces. If you don’t have a dehydrator you can always use your oven on the lowest temperature setting, approximately 175F.

Step 4:

Remove once thoroughly dry and enjoy!

This was a simple recipe and the taste is beyond what I was hoping to achieve. It does have a peppery bite so if that’s not your thing, just adjust taste to your liking. This is one the whole family will enjoy and will definitely be added to our recipe book. I believe it will be just as good if you use beef or venison. I hope you give this a try next time you make your own jerky.
